In recent days, Busia County, Kenya, has seen a surge of development activity that speaks to something deeper than infrastructure. It signals movement, momentum, and opportunity in a region long positioned for both economic and spiritual impact.

Located along the Kenya–Uganda border, Busia County is not just a rural region; it is a strategic corridor for trade, agriculture, and cross-border influence. Within this region, Teso South (where the Goshen Living Center property is situated) is in close proximity to emerging development initiatives that are already reshaping the landscape.

This week, national attention has turned toward Busia through the launch and commissioning of new infrastructure projects. Roads are being expanded to improve mobility and trade routes, and modern markets are opening to empower local business owners, particularly women and youth. While some of these developments are centered in neighboring areas such as Teso North and Budalang’i, their impact does not remain confined to those areas. In regions like Busia, development is interconnected—what happens in one sub-county inevitably strengthens the surrounding areas through shared roads, trade flow, and community movement.

According to the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Ruto is presided over “the launch of the construction of the 22km Matayos–Nangina and Nangina–Sio Port–Mumbaka roads.” Of which, the State Dept of Kenya has noted that it will be a 773 million KSh (approx. 5.9 million USD) infrastructure initiative. While President Ruto shared a second initiative of 860 million KSh (approx. 6.64 million USD) in his X announcement on March 16, 2026.

Why Location Matters: What’s Happening in Busia and Why It Strengthens the Vision of Goshen

For Goshen Living Center, this is significant.

The vision has always been to establish a hub that serves both practical and transformative needs: agriculture, food security, healthcare access, and a place of hope for vulnerable populations. What is unfolding in Busia reinforces the idea that this land was not chosen randomly; it is positioned within a growing ecosystem of opportunity.

These projects are “expected to significantly improve the movement of goods and people, facilitate trade, and enhance access to essential services within Busia County and its environs,” says the Press Release. While also noting that this “upgrade will particularly benefit local farmers and businesses by providing a more reliable and efficient transport network.”

Improved road access will directly affect the ability to distribute food and resources. Expanded markets will strengthen local economies, creating pathways toward sustainability rather than dependency. This is an incredible win for the region! Increased regional investment brings greater visibility, opening doors for partnerships and long-term development.

When the Rains Come

At the same time, the region is entering a season of heavy rains, which often brings temporary challenges such as limited road access and increased strain on vulnerable communities. While this may slow certain aspects of development, it also underscores the immediate need for stable, resource-centered hubs like Goshen—places that can provide both practical support and a consistent presence within the community.

This moment in Busia reflects a convergence: development is increasing, need is present, and the region’s strategic importance is being recognized on a broader scale.

Goshen Living Center stands at the intersection of all three.

What is being built here is not merely a project. It is a response to both the current realities and the region's future potential. And in a place where nations meet, resources flow, and communities are being strengthened, the foundation being laid today carries significance that will extend far beyond the boundaries of one piece of land into generations to come.
